Bored yet?

Sorry if I'm boring anyone but this was my first chance to get down to St Mary's, wanted to try something different and capture a star trail as well as the lasers. Unfortunately it clouded over, but I'll be back on Saturday.
St Mary's Laser Star Trail

  1. Wonder how many birds will be left there after all this officially sanctioned disturbance? :-(

  2. The thought did cross my mind whilst I was down there, although there were a fair few birds feeding on the links. We'll just have to wait and see.

  3. How long was the exposure on this image Cain? Also how long on your previous star trail??

  4. Lots of boring things on the internet but you blog and photos are not one of them.:-)
Personally I'll be surprised if the Laser has any adverse effect upon the bird numbers. If I'm wrong I'm happy to be told so next week.:-) I can think of a few other disturbances down at the coast which are more likely to be detrimental.
I was reading about star trail photography and saw that some final photographs are made up of several exposures. Are yours done that way Cain, or are they produced with one long exposure? Cheers.

  5. I find the one long exposure method doesn't yield any decent results in areas of heavy light pollution, so the majority of my star trail images have been stacked. This is where I take multiple images (about 40 in this one ) and put them into a piece of software which stacks them, it normally produces the best results.

  6. Yeah I find your blog and photos really good as well and certainly not boring Cain.

There is no harm in variety and it's good to see a pic of the laser in the dark. It's nice having this together with the lighthouse in the background.
